Justice for modern day slaves?

[See below for tickets to this event]

29, 800, 000. That's how many people are estimated to be in modern day slavery: human trafficking, forced labour, and forms of bonded employment. (Source: Global Slavery Index 2013). To put a face on just one of those numbers: the girl pictured is being transported to a brick kiln in India, where she will work as a bonded labourer. If only slavery were a thing of the past.

International Justice Mission works globally to bring freedom for those in these kinds of slavery, and justice for the perpetrators.

This is an issue of particular concern for Christians, who trace their spiritual heritage to an exodus from slavery long ago. And surely it is a concern for people of compassion everywhere.

On Tuesday 10th June, St Luke's welcomes the CEO of the new Australian arm of International Justice Mission, Amber Hawkes, to hear of their work to bring justice to modern day slaves.

This is a public event, featuring a talk, videos, opportunity for interaction, and supper. It is open to both adults and school students.

All students (highschool or university) are free. Adult tickets are $7, with all proceeds (minus a third party booking fee) being given to IJM Australia. Please book a ticket by 'adding to cart' below, and join us at 8pm on Tuesday 10th. To register for more than one adult, click 'Add to cart' again.

Tickets will be available at the door, but please bring your credit card as we will only be able to accept a small number of cash payments.
