Christian generosity flows from the conviction that all we have is a gift from God, which leads us into a deep sense of thankfulness rather than entitlement. Our money, our time, our skills and our gifts belong to God and have been given to us to use in Jesus’ service (Romans 12:6-8). In this, we follow our Saviour and Master, who ‘though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich’ (2 Cor. 8:9). As we give away our riches, we testify that Jesus – not money – is our master. As we give, we learn to rely ever more deeply on God to provide. As we give, we can love our neighbour in very practical ways!
When Christians have been transformed by God’s grace and Spirit to behave like this, we find there are a variety of areas where we can serve Jesus with our money, including: to the poor and needy, to our family and relatives (1 Tim. 5:8), to the government in the form of taxes (Rom. 13:7), missionaries seeking to grow God’s kingdom in the wider world (Phil. 4:15), and to our local church community (1 Tim. 5:17-18; Gal. 6:6). And it is our vision at St Luke’s to our Christian community so overwhelmed with God’s grace & generosity to us, that we will love to be generous in all these ways.
All the ministries of St Luke’s are dependent on God’s provision through the giving of our regulars and partners. Our vision to see Clovelly & beyond transformed by Jesus is driving us forward and driving our finances, which are administered by the wardens and parish council. If you belong to St Luke’s, we encourage you to give prayerfully, sacrificially, generously and cheerfully. “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Cor. 9:7)
You can give by cash/cheque on Sunday, or by direct transfer to the church bank account:
